In this episode, Emily and 지훈 talk about their weekend plans and what they usually do in their free time: meeting friends, watching movies, exercising, resting, and listening to music.

1. Weekend plans

Emily: 지훈 씨, 이번 주말에 뭐 할 거예요?
Emily: Jihoon, what will you do this weekend?

지훈: 아마 친구 만날 거예요. Emily 씨는요?
지훈: I’ll probably meet a friend. How about you?


2. Watching a movie

Emily: 저는 영화 볼 거예요.
Emily: I will watch a movie.

지훈: 어떤 영화 볼 거예요?
지훈: What movie will you watch?

Emily: 코미디 영화요.
Emily: A comedy movie.


3. Exercising

지훈: 저는 주말에 등산할 거예요. Emily 씨는 운동해요?
지훈: I will go hiking this weekend. Do you exercise, Emily?

Emily: 네, 가끔 조깅해요.
Emily: Yes, I sometimes go jogging.


4. Resting at home

Emily: 저는 주말에 집에서 쉴 거예요.
Emily: I will rest at home this weekend.

지훈: 좋아요. 쉬는 것도 중요해요.
지훈: That’s good. Resting is important too.


5. Listening to music (free time)

Emily: 지훈 씨는 시간 있을 때 뭐 해요?
Emily: Jihoon, what do you do when you have time?

지훈: 저는 음악 자주 들어요.
지훈: I often listen to music.

Emily: 아, 저도 음악 좋아해요!
Emily: Oh, I like music too!

  • 이번 주말에 뭐 할 거예요? → What will you do this weekend?
  • 친구 만날 거예요 → I will meet a friend
  • 영화 볼 거예요 → I will watch a movie
  • 어떤 영화 볼 거예요? → What movie will you watch?
  • 등산할 거예요 → I will go hiking
  • 운동해요? → Do you exercise?
  • 집에서 쉴 거예요 → I will rest at home
  • 시간 있을 때 뭐 해요? → What do you do when you have time?
  • 음악 자주 들어요 → I often listen to music

📚 3. Grammar & Notes

  • ~(으)ㄹ 거예요
    • Future tense, used for plans and predictions.
    • Example: 볼 거예요 (will watch), 등산할 거예요 (will go hiking).
  • 어떤
    • Means “what kind / which.”
    • Example: 어떤 영화 볼 거예요? (What kind of movie will you watch?)
  • 등산
    • Means “hiking” or “mountain climbing.”
    • A very popular weekend activity in Korea.
  • 들어요
    • From 듣다 (to listen).
    • Irregular verb: 듣다 → 들어요 (ㄷ changes to ㄹ before a vowel).
    • Example: 음악 들어요 (I listen to music).
  • 시간 있을 때
    • A natural phrase meaning “when you have time.”
    • More commonly used than “여가 시간” in daily life.
