Ep.2: Getting to Know Each Other
In the previous episode, Emily and 지훈 greeted each other and introduced where they are from. Now it’s time to get to know each other better! In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask about age, job, where someone lives, family, and hobbies. These are essential questions for making small talk in Korean.

1. 나이 (Age)
Emily: 지훈 씨, 몇 살이에요?
Emily: Jihoon, how old are you?
지훈: 저는 스물네 살이에요. Emily 씨는요?
지훈: I’m 24. How about you, Emily?
Emily: 저는 스물두 살이에요.
Emily: I’m 22.
2. 직업 (Occupation)
Emily: 직업은 뭐예요?
Emily: What’s your job?
지훈: 저는 대학생이에요. Emily 씨는요?
지훈: I’m a university student. How about you?
Emily: 저는 영어 선생님이에요.
Emily: I’m an English teacher.
3. 사는 곳 (Where you live)
Emily: 지금 어디에 살아요?
Emily: Where do you live now?
지훈: 저는 인천에 살아요. Emily 씨는요?
지훈: I live in Incheon. How about you?
Emily: 저는 뉴욕에 살아요.
Emily: I live in New York.
4. 가족 (Family)
Emily: 가족은 어떻게 되세요?
Emily: Could you tell me about your family?
지훈: 부모님하고 여동생 한 명 있어요. Emily 씨는요?
지훈: I have my parents and one younger sister. How about you?
Emily: 저도 부모님하고 오빠 한 명 있어요.
Emily: I also have my parents and one older brother.
5. 취미 (Hobby)
Emily: 취미가 뭐예요?
Emily: What’s your hobby?
지훈: 제 취미는 음악 듣기예요. Emily 씨는요?
지훈: My hobby is listening to music. How about you?
Emily: 제 취미는 사진 찍기예요.
Emily: My hobby is taking photos.

- 몇 살이에요? → How old are you?
- 직업은 뭐예요? → What is your job?
- 어디에 살아요? → Where do you live?
- 가족이 있어요? → Do you have a family?
- 취미가 뭐예요? → What is your hobby?
📚 3. Grammar & Notes
- 몇 살이에요?
- Literal: “How many years (old) are you?”
- Polite way to ask age.
- Answer: 저는 ___ 살이에요. → I’m ___ years old.
- ~은/는 뭐예요?
- Pattern for asking “What is ___?”
- 직업은 뭐예요? → What is your job?
- 취미는 뭐예요? → What is your hobby?
- 어디에 살아요?
- Verb: 살다 = to live.
- 지금 어디에 살아요? → Where do you live now?
- 저는 ___에 살아요. → I live in ___.
- 가족이 있어요?
- 가족 = family, 있어요 = there is/are, to have.
- 가족이 있어요? → Do you have a family?
- 네, 부모님하고 동생 있어요. → Yes, I have parents and a younger sibling.
- ~하고
- Used like “and” when listing people or things.
- 부모님하고 여동생 → parents and younger sister.

Example:
저는 스물세 살이에요. → I’m 23.
저는 회사원이에요. → I’m an office worker.
저는 런던에 살아요. → I live in London.
가족이 있어요. 부모님하고 언니 한 명 있어요. → I have parents and one older sister.
제 취미는 영화 보기예요. → My hobby is watching movies.
