🌟 Series: Korean With My Language Exchange Friend
Learn Korean step by step, chatting with a real Korean friend!
Ep.0 – Begin with Hangul: Your Language Exchange Journey
Hello everyone! 👋
Welcome to Korean With My Language Exchange Friend, a story-based series for absolute beginners who want to learn Korean from scratch.
This isn’t a textbook-style course. Instead, we’ll learn through real-life conversations: imagine meeting a Korean friend on a language exchange app. Each episode will give you practical expressions, grammar, and culture tips in the context of a dialogue.
Why Ep.0?
Every language journey starts with the basics — for Korean, that means Hangul (한글).
👉 Hangul is the writing system of the Korean language. It’s the alphabet used for everything in Korean — books, signs, menus, and text messages. If you want to speak Korean, being able to at least recognize Hangul will make your journey much easier.
Hangul Isn’t Hard ✨
At first glance, Hangul may look complicated, but it’s actually one of the most logical and easy-to-learn writing systems in the world.
Consonants are shaped after how the mouth and tongue move.
Vowels are based on simple lines and dots.
You can start reading simple words in just a few hours.
👉 And here’s the important part: you don’t need to master Hangul perfectly right now.
It’s fine if you can only recognize some syllables. As you follow this series, you’ll keep practicing Hangul naturally through the expressions in each episode.
Choose Your Starting Point 📖
I’ve already written two posts that guide you through Hangul:
Beginner-Friendly Version → simple explanations and examples only.
In-Depth Version → history, design principles, and detailed pronunciation rules.
Both posts also include audio recordings so you can hear the correct sounds, and simple practice exercises to test yourself while learning.
👉 Pick the one that suits your style, then come back here to continue with the story.
Use This Series in Real Life 🌍
If you’re using a language exchange app (like HelloTalk, Tandem, or any other platform) to meet Korean friends, try practicing with them using the expressions from each episode. That way, this won’t just be “study time” — it’ll be real conversations with real people.
Coming Up Next
In Ep.1, we’ll begin our first dialogue on a language exchange app: greeting someone, introducing yourself, and starting your very first conversation in Korean.
