The weather is one of the easiest and most natural topics when chatting with friends. In this episode, Emily and 지훈 talk about today’s weather, rain, hot and cold seasons, wind, and even the seasons in Korea.

1. Asking about the weather
Emily: 지훈 씨, 오늘 날씨 어때요?
Emily: Jihoon, how’s the weather today?
지훈: 오늘 인천은 맑아요. Emily 씨는요?
지훈: It’s sunny in Incheon today. How about you?
Emily: 뉴욕은 추워요.
Emily: It’s cold in New York.
2. Raining
지훈: 저는 오늘 공원에 가려고 했는데 비가 와요.
지훈: I was going to go to the park today, but it’s raining.
Emily: 아, 정말요? 우산 가져가세요!
Emily: Oh, really? Take an umbrella!
지훈: 아뇨, 비 오니까 공원 안 가고 집에서 쉴게요.
지훈: No, since it’s raining, I won’t go to the park. I’ll just rest at home.
3. Hot and cold
Emily: 한국 여름은 더워요?
Emily: Is summer in Korea hot?
지훈: 네, 정말 더워요. 그리고 겨울은 추워요.
지훈: Yes, it’s really hot. And winter is cold.

- 맑아요 → It’s sunny
- 비가 와요 → It’s raining
- 비 오니까 ___ → Since it’s raining, ___
- 더워요 → It’s hot
- 추워요 → It’s cold
- 바람이 불어요 → It’s windy
- 무슨 계절이에요? → What season is it?
📚 3. Grammar & Notes
- 날씨 어때요?
- Basic way to ask about the weather.
- You can also say 오늘 날씨 좋아요? (Is the weather nice today?).
- 비가 와요 / 눈이 와요
- Literally “rain comes” / “snow comes.”
- Means “it’s raining” / “it’s snowing.”
- 비 오니까
- ~니까 = “since / because.”
- 비 오니까 집에서 쉴게요 → Since it’s raining, I’ll rest at home.
- 덥다 / 춥다
- 덥다 = hot (for weather/temperature).
- 춥다 = cold (for weather/temperature).
- Example: 한국 여름은 더워요. (Summer in Korea is hot.)
- 바람이 불어요
- 바람 = wind, 불다 = to blow.
- Together: It’s windy.
- 계절 (season)
- 한국 has four distinct seasons: 봄 (spring), 여름 (summer), 가을 (autumn), 겨울 (winter).
